BEDLINGTON STATION

Tubby, E., Pte., M.M., 1918
In Giavera British Cemetery, Arcade, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 13916 Private Edward Tubby M.M. serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers who died 27/10/1918.

Carole Fife has provided the following:

Edward was born in Bedlington in 1890, the youngest child of William and Mary Tubby who were originally from Norfolk. Edward and his brothers joined their father in working down the pit, and after William died in 1907 in Choppington Edward lived with his mother until he married Sarah Darling on 20th December 1913. They had two daughters, Sarah in 1914 and Edna in 1915. Edward joined 10th Battalion NF on 25th August 1915. Having fought on the Western front since August 1915, the Battalion was moved to Italy in November 1917 and it is here that Edward won his Military Medal in December 1917. He continued fighting on the Italian front, being killed only a fortnight before the Armistice.

He is remembered in Bedlington Station on B163.04 and in Bedlington on B15.06
