W. Jamieson

In Ovillers Military Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 21/789 Private William Jamieson, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers who died 01/07/1916.

Carole Fife has provided the following:

William, elder brother of Robert, was born in Bedlington in 1888 to William and Jane Jamieson. The family lived for many years at Puddlers Row, Bedlington Bank Top, but by 1911 they were living at 70 South Row, Bedlington Station and William was a hewer like his father. William enlisted after the Tyneside Scottish were formed and joined the second of the four battalions. On the first day of the Battle of the Somme the 21st Battalion was attacking the village of La Boiselle, and William is buried in Ovilliers Military Cemetery, near a casualty clearing station.

He is remembered in Bedlington Station on B163.04 and in Bedlington on B15.07
