BEDLINGTON STATION

Gray, G., Pte., 1916
In Heilly Station Cemetery, Mericourt-L'Abbe is the Commonwealth War Grave of 23/886 Private G. Gray, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers who died 07/06/1916.

Carole Fife has provided the following:

He is named as G Grey on St John's Memorial and in enlistment records, but in the Census and on the CWGC site his name is spelled Gray. He was born in 1883, the only child of John and Ruth Gray of Jubilee Terrace, Bedlington Station. In 1904 he married Hellenor Todd and they lived at 23, Melrose Terrace, (other side of the street) and George waa joiner. They had four children: John, George, Frederick and Hilda.

George is buried in Heilly Station Cemetery which was near three Casualty Clearing Stations, so it is likely he died of wounds in hospital.

He is remembered in Bedlington Station on B163.04 and in Bedlington on B15.06
