Fitzsimmons, N., Pte., 1916
On the Thiepval Memorial is the name of 11441 Private Nicholas Fitzsimmons, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers who died 04/07/1916.

Carole Fife has provided the following:

Nicholas, older brother of Daniel, was born in Cumberland in 1886. In the late 1890s the family moved to Bedlington and Nicholas worked as a hewer in the pit. In 1906 he married Ellenor Cole and they had three children, Nicholas, William and Samuel. In 1911 they lived at 3, Front Clayton Street, Bedlington.

Nicholas died in the early days of the Battle of the Somme, and is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial.

He is remembered in Bedlington Station on B163.04 and in B15.06 where his name is spelled Fitzimmons
