Fitzsimmons, D., Pte., 1918
In Cologne Southern Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 23/718 Private Daniel Fitzsimmons, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers who died 21/07/1918.

Carole Fife has provided the following:

Daniel, younger brother of Nicholas, was born in Cumberland in 1888 to Joseph and Betsy Fitzsimmons. The family moved to Bedlington Bank Top in the late 1890s and Daniel became a hewer like his father and brothers. In 1912 he married Surlottie Slack and they had two children, Daniel and Margaret.

The 23rd Battalion was training American units at the time that Daniel died. He is buried in Cologne Southern Cemetery in Germany.

He is remembered in Bedlington Station on B163.04 and in B15.06 where his name is spelled Fitzimmons.
