BEDLINGTON STATION

Taylor, A., Rifleman, 1918
In Orival Wood Cemetery, Flesquieres, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 307647 Rifleman Arthur Taylor, serving with the West Yorkshire Regiment, who died 27/09/1918.

Carole Fife has provided the following.

Arthur Borrows Taylor was born in Bedlington Station in 1896, the eldest son of Frederick and Lilian. The family lived at North Row, Bedlington Station, first at number 39 and then at 121. In 1911 Arthur was working as a messenger boy at the pit. Arthur and his brother George probably enlisted in the West Yorkshire Regiment because their father had been born in Yorkshire. I think I have found the correct A. Taylor because family legend had it that both sons were in the same regiment and died in the same day. There is no A. Taylor that I can find in any regiment who died on the same date as George Henry, but this Arthur died in the same regiment and on the same day of the month. Unfortunately his niece has lost touch with the relative who has George and Arthur's medals.. Arthur served with the 8th Battalion and died on 27th September when the village of Flesquieres was captured.

Arthur and his brother George are remembered in Bedlington Station on B163.04 and in Bedlington on B15.06
