Barnes, J., Pte., 1916
On the Thiepval Memorial is the name of 10/11895 Private John Barnes serving with 10th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers who died 07/07/1916.

Carole Fife has provided the following:

John was born late in 1896, one of 7 children to Robert and Elizabeth Barnes. His father was a miner, and in both the 1901 and 1911 censuses the family was living at Glebe Row, Bedlington. John became a miner like his father, and in the summer of 1913 he married Mary Jane Thompson. They had two sons, John W. in 1914 and Fred in 1916. The couple lived at Oliver's Buildings in Bedlington.

He is remembered in Bedlington on B15.02 , B15.06 and B15.26 page 97
