Arries, J.M., Pte., 1917
On the Tyne Cot Memorial is the name of 235067 Private John Mansfield Arries, serving with 15th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers, who died 02/12/1917.

Carole Fife has provided the following:

John was born 14th January 1889 at Bilton Banks near Shilbottle, one of 10 children to Alexander and Mary Arries. The family moved to the Bedlington area in the early 1890s and in 1901 they were living at the Bank Top, Bedlington before moving to North Terrace by 1911. John became a miner like his father and brothers. Although serving with the Lancashire Fusiliers at the time of his death, he enlisted first into the East Yorkshire Regiment as Private 10725.

He is remembered in Bedlington on B15.06 and B15.26 page 80
