Dunn, G.R., Cpl. of Horse, 1917

On the Tyne Cot Memorial is the name of 1113 Corporal of Horse, George Robert Dunn, serving with the Household Cavalry who died 12/10/1917.

Derek Johnstone has provided the following:

George Robert Dunn, the son of William and Mary Isabella Dunn, was born in about 1896 at Bedlington, Northumberland. His family lived at Jubilee Terrace, Bedlington Station in 1901 when he was five years old. In the 1911 Census he was living in his parents’ house at 44, North Terrace, Bedlington with his brothers Arthur, William Harold and sister Margery. George was working in the coal mines aged 15 at this time. North Terrace was one of the collier rows adjacent to Doctor Pit. There is no evidence to show he was married. Robert was living at North Terrace when he enlisted in London, initially into the 1st Life Guards (Service Number 3439) before joining the Household Cavalry.

He is remembered in Bedlington on B15.02, B15.06, B15.19, B15.20 and B15.26 page 82
