ASHINGTON

Proctor, G., A/Smn., 1915
On the Helles Memorial is the name of Tyneside Z/1210 Able Seaman George Proctor, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 19/06/1915.

Margaret Allison states that he lived with his wife Dora at 61 Pont Street, Ashington and that he was aged 25 years when he died.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

George was born on 13th March 1890. He was working as a miner living with his father, Thomas at 34, Laburnam Terrace, Ashington when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 7th November 1914. This address was later changed when he lived with his wife Dora at 230, Chestnut Street, Ashington, and later again to 61, Pont Street, Ashington.

George joined the Hawke Battalion on 20th February 1915 and was killed in action in Gallipoli on 19th June 1915.

George Proctor is remembered in Ashington on A17.01 (A17.27) and A17.43
