ASHINGTON

Richardson, T., A/Smn., 1917
In New Irish Farm Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of Tyneside Z/6151 Able Seaman Thomas Richardson, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 11/10/1917.

Acknowledgements: Margaret Allison, who says that in 1911 he lived in Bedlington.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

Thomas was born on June 24th 1892. He was working as a miner living with his parents, Thomas and Clara at 7, First Row, Ellington Colliery, Ashington when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on July 17th 1915.

He joined the Hawke Battalion in France on February 7th 1916 and was invalided to the UK on February 28th 1917 suffering from Trench Foot.

Thomas rejoined the Hawke Battalion on July 6th 1917 and was killed in action on October 11th 1917. The Battalion War Diary for that date states "......4 men of "C" Company killed by a single shell."

He is remembered in Ashington on A17.01, (A17.27) and A17.43
