In St. Mary's Churchyard, Woodhorn, is the grave of 152042 Gunner James Hetherington, serving with the Royal Garrison Artillery who died 09/06/1919.

Margaret Allison reports: James Hetherington lived at 5 Woodhorn Colliery. He was discharged after spending time in hospital and convalescent home. It is not clear whether he was admitted to a Newcastle hospital. He died and was cremated in Newcastle. His ashes were buried in a family plot in St. Mary's churchyard, Woodhorn. Alan Grint and I researched him when we were researching the memorial and found the entry in a burial book in the Northumberland Archives at Woodhorn.

There is no CWGC entry for James Hetherington.

He is remembered in Ashington on A17.01 (A17.27) and A17.43
