ASHINGTON

Dudding, J.W., A/Smn., 1915
On the Helles Memorial is the name of KP/694 Able Seaman James William Dudding, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 31/05/1915.

Margaret Allison reports that he lived with his wife Elizabeth at 68½ Myrtle Street, Ashington, and that he was aged 27 when he died.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

James was born on the 16th October 1887 at Trimdon Grange.. He was residing with his wife Elizabeth May at 48, Station Road, Hirst, Ashington when he enlisted in the Northumberland Fusiliers on the 3rd September 1914.

He transferred to the RNVR on the 10th September 1914 and was posted to the Anson Battalion on the 28th October 1914. James was killed in action in Gallipoli on the 31st May 1915.
