On the Helles Memorial is the name of Tyneside Z/1791 Able Seaman Richard Charlton Marshall, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 04/06/1915.

Richard was born on January 12th 1884. He was working as a miner living with his parents, Thomas and Frances at 54.1/2, Castle Terrace, Hirst, Ashington when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on November 14th 1914.

He joined the 1st Platoon, "D" Company of the Collingwood Battalion on March 4th 1915 and was posted as missing, later reported as being killed in action in Gallipoli on June 4th 1915.

He is remembered in Ashington on A17.01, (A17.27), and A17.43
