Wood, G.R.N., W/O, 1944
In Rheinberg War Cemetery, Germany, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 412792 Warrant Officer George Robert Newton Wood, serving with the Royal Australian Air Force, who died 31/03/1944.

Simon Glancey has submitted the following:
W/O Wood was born on March 2nd 1913, and his birth registered at Morpeth. He was killed when Avro Lancaster III ND406 GT-S of 156 Squadron was lost on a mission to Nuremberg. The Lancaster was shot down by a Ju-88 night-fighter flown by Oblt. Gunter Koberich of II./NKG2, and crashed near Holzwellen. Of the seven crew, six were lost, the survivor becoming a Prisoner of War.

He is remembered in Ashington on A11.01 (A17.27) and A11.43
