In St. Mary’s Burial Ground is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of 4273988 Fusilier Sidney Elliot serving with the 9th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers who died 04/04/1940.

The headstone reads:

In memory of
my dear sons
Fus. Sydney D. Elliot 9th R.N.F.
1920-1940
Sgt. James N. Elliot 7th R.N.F.
1917-1941
Who died on active service

His brother James was also killed.
