Noble, A., L/Cpl., 1915

Menin Gate Memorial

On the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial is the name of 2108 Lance Corporal Alexander Noble, serving with the 7th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers, (T.F.) who died 26/04/1915.

Alexander Noble was born on the 26th January 1881 at Spittal, Berwick-on-Tweed, he was the son of the late John Noble, Spittal, a Boot and Shoe Maker.

He was educated at the St John's Church of England School at Spittal, and was employed by the Tweedside Industrial Co-operative Society as a Grocer.

Alexander also was an Organist and a Choir Master at the Wesleyan Church in Berwick-on-Tweed.

He joined the Northumberland Fusiliers in September 1914, and served with the British Expeditionary Force in France.

Alexander was reported as wounded and missing after the fighting at St Julien, during the second battle of Ypres on the 26th April 1915.
