In Amble West Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of Deck Hand James Brown, serving with the Merchant Navy who died 04/07/1940.

The headstone reads:

In loving memory of
James
Dearly loved husband of
Annie J. Brown
Lost at sea enemy action
4th July 1940 aged 66 years.
Also Capt. James their son
Lost at sea enemy action
5th Dec. 1940 aged 34 years.

James Brown is remembered in Amble on A13.01, A13.06, possibly on A13.13 and on our List of Ships' crews
