In Rue-Petillon Military Cemetery, Fleurbaix is the Commonwealth War Grave of 2nd Lieutenant Francis Russell Eagar, serving with the 36th Battery, Royal Field Artillery who died 09/05/1915.

Francis Russell Eagar was born in Fawdon House, Newcastle-upon-Tyne on the 27th September 1893. He was the third son of (the late) Captain Edward Boaz Eagar, 1st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers (who was killed in action at Belmont, South Africa 23rd November 1899). See also NUT017, and his wife, Ada (now wife of Edward Franks, of The Priory, Bishops Cleve, Gloucester), daughter of Colonel Newman Burfoot Thoyts, of the Mythe House, Tewkesbury, J.P.

He was educated at Connaught House (J. R. Morgan) at Weymouth, Sherbourne, Dorset, and the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich (1913-1914).

Francis was gazetted on the 12th August 1914 to the Royal Field Artillery, and left for France with his battery in November.

He was killed in action whilst on observation duty at Fleurbaix, France, on the 9th May 1915. He was unmarried. He had two brothers both serving in 1916, Captain E. F. Eagar, Royal Berkshire Regiment and Sergeant G. Eagar, Lincolnshire Regiment.
