On the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme, France is the name of 2494 Lance Corporal Harold Esmond Horsley serving with the 1st/5th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers who died 01/10/1916.

Son of George Thomas and Ellen M. Horsley, of 18, Holborn Terrace, Ryton-on-Tyne. B.Sc. Durham University.

In Ryton Holy Cross Churchyard is a family headstone which reads:-
