On the Tower Hill Memorial is the name of Third Engineer Matthew Golightly, serving with the Mercantile Marine who died 24/08/1917.

In Newcastle Cemetery, Fenham, is a family headstone which reads:

aged 67 years
and of his sons
Matthew
aged 26 years
Joseph Henry
aged 22 years
George Frederick
aged 19 years
killed in action
Great War 1914-18
and his wife
Annie Golightly
died 27 Jan. 1940
aged 70 years
Also Annie Lilian
dear daughter
and sister of the above
died 2nd Jan 1994
aged 101 years.
