Gould, Chalkley Vivian, Major, Royal Field Artillery, killed in action, was 37 years of age, and had studied mining at Armstrong College, Newcastle, obtaining the degree of B.Sc. at Durham in 1902.He spent a number of years in the United States at his profession, and joined the Army in October, 1914, being gazetted second-lieutenant the following month. Major Gould was a great-grandson of Commodore Pearce, who fought and died with Nelson.
