In St. Andrew's and Jesmond Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of:

1684977 Flight Sergeant
S.J. Crawhall
Pilot
Royal Air Force
5th April 1945.

Sergeant Crawhall was with 1667 HCU as a crew member of Lancaster III ND639 which was on a training exercise from Sandtoft. The aircraft crashed WNW of Scunthorpe. Sgt. Crawhall was the only British crew member, the rest were Australians. All were killed.
