On the Alamein Memorial is the name of 42306 Pilot Officer Thomas Albert Grundy, serving with the Royal Air Force who died 16/07/1940.

Pilot Officer Grundy was killed when Bristol Bombay L5848 was lost on a mission to Tobruk. The bomber was shot down by a night fighter, with the loss of all five crew members.

Also killed in the same incident was LAC M.H. Winship

Pilot Officer Grundy is listed in the Scout Roll of Honour 1939-45 as having served with the 41st Newcastle Group.

Thomas Albert Grundy is remembered in Benwell on B86.06 and B86.03 and at Jesmond on J1.04
