Pattison, J.B., Pte., 1918

In Terlincthun British Cemetery, Wimille is the Commonwealth War Grave of 16/205 Private James Burton Pattison, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers who died 31/05/1918.

In Benwell (St.James) Churchyard is a family headstone which reads:

In loving
Memory of
Harold William
Second son of
William Phillip & Sarah
Ellen Pattison
Who died Nov. 20th 1908
Aged 16 years.
Also of James Burton
3rd beloved son of above
Who died May 31st 1918 at Epernay,
France, from wounds received
In action on May 27th aged 25.
Greater love hath no man.
Also the above William Phillip
Who died Oct. 23rd 1921
Aged 62 years.

The Geordie at War Project states:

"The War Diary shows the Battalion in action at Beaurepaire when Private Pattison was killed. It shows 3 officers and 10 Other Ranks killed at this time."

He served in the 7th Platoon 'B' Company of the 16th Northumberland Fusiliers before transferring to the 1/5th Battalion.

James Burton Pattison is remembered at Benwell on B86.02, B86.15 and in B86.19b part 2 page 33, in the Battalion History NUT068 page 159.
