Robert was born on 12th June 1896 and was working as a miner living with his parents, Robert and Jane Ellen at 6, Coulson Street, Benwell, when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 13th January 1915. He joined the Benbow Battalion initially and then transferred to the Nelson Battalion on 12th June 1915. Robert was posted as killed in action on 21st June 1915 in Gallipoli.
Robert William Curson is remembered in Benwell on B86.02 and B86.19
