Wightman, D., Sgt., 1942
In Escoublac-La-Baule War Cemetery, near St. Nazaire, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 982542 Sergeant Douglas Wightman, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, who died 16/04/1942.

Simon Glancey has submitted the following:

Sgt. Wightman was killed when Avro Manchester I L7485 ZN-D of 106 Squadron was lost on a minelaying mission to the 'Deodar' area, the code name for Bordeaux. The Manchester is assumed to have crashed in the English Channel, with the loss of all seven crew members. It was the crew's first operation. The body of the pilot was washed up at Weymouth, and four others were found in Brittany. The remaining two have no known grave, and are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.
