Susan Smith has sent in the following:

John's grave stone is not accurate in that it omits the word ‘Father’ . I will send in a separate email a copy of the original and intended inscription.

This error has caused my generation to wonder why our great grandfather (Patrick) is missing from the inscription. On speaking to John's cousin this morning I can confirm that John was very ill and sent home to his family.

I am told that John arrived home with pneumonia and on arriving home he was placed into bed and died almost immediately.

John Barry is remembered in Wallsend on W7.09 page 4 and possibly on W7.19 page 29 and on our List of Ships’ crews
