Robert Poole was born at Hartlepool on the 30th June 1894, and was the son of Robert Watkin Poole, who resided at 1 Shields Road, Wallsend-on-Tyne, Newcastle.
He was educated at the Tootal Road School in Salford, Manchester.
Robert was employed at the Swan Hunter and Wigham Richardson as an apprentice fitter in the Dry Docks department. He was also a member of the 1st Company of the Wallsend Boys Life Brigade.
He joined the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve after the outbreak of war on the 22nd September 1914. He served at the Dardanelles and died in St. Andrews Hospital, Malta, on Monday, 23rd August 1915 from dysentery contracted whilst on active service.
