In Hartlepool West Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 2080073 Aircraftwoman 1st Class Christina Moore, serving with the Women's Auxiliary Air Force who died 03/07/1943.

Miss L Stewart - Christina’s great niece has submitted the following:

Christina Moore born in 1923 was the youngest daughter of James and Edith Ellen Moore (nee Edwards married 1902).

The family lived in Old Hartlepool on the Headland at Sussex Street and later 44 Southgate. James was a fisherman. The family were “crofters” of Old Hartlepool.

During World War Two Christina joined the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force (Service Number 2080073) and became an Aircraftswoman 1st Class.

On the 3rd of July 1943 she died of pneumonia at Wilmslow Hospital, Cheshire. Christina was given a military funeral and was buried in West View Cemetery Hartlepool. When James and Edith died they were buried with Christina in the cemetery

The family donated money to St Hilda’s Church where “Chrissie” had been a member of the 1st Hartlepool’s Girls Brigade. The prayer kneeling table and brass hammered arms dish in her memory are still in use today.

Her name is spelt by her parents Christina; CWGCC has Christania whilst Civil Registration has Christiana.

Christina is remembered at Hartlepool on H115.20 H115.60 H115.61 and at West Hartlepool on W111.55
