Davis, R.W., ERA, 1914
On Chatham Naval Memorial is the name of 1011EA Engine Room Artificer Reginald William Davis, serving with the Royal Naval Reserve who died 22/09/1914.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

Reginald William was born in Sydney, Australia on 30th June 1884 to William and Emily Davis.

When he joined the Royal Naval Reserve on 1st April 1912 he was living at 38, George Street, South Shields and was employed as a sea going engineer. Reginald married Rosina on 17th March 1914 and her address was given as 29, Heydon Street, Sydney, Australia.

Reginald was called up in August 1914 and was posted to H.M.S. Aboukir and was lost when she was torpedoed off the Belgian Coast on 22nd September 1914. Tynemouth T36.14 gives his address as Lansdowne Terrace.

(Note: his papers give his rank as Stoker, Petty Officer but the Pension Ledger gives his rank as Engine Room Artificer)
