Watmough, E., Bdr., 1917
In Achiet-Le-Grand Communal Cemetery Extension is the Commonwealth War Grave of 750728 Bombardier Edmund Watmough serving with 'A' Battery, 315th Royal Field Artillery Brigade who died 31/08/1918.

Edmund was born in Moorfields, Bramley, Yorkshire, on the 27th March 1891. His father Joseph was a school master, at the time teaching Languages and Science, who was married to Mary Helen and they had 9 children. John Cyril Watmough was his older brother out of the six boys.

He is one of four brothers who enlisted and 3 including Edmund were killed including Victor Watmough and John Cyril Watmough and his other brother Henry Francis Watmough also enlisted.

Before the family moved to the North East John's father was actively involved in politics and became a political agent. By 1901 the family were residing at 43 Marine Approach, South Shields. Edmund's youngest brother Cecil was born in the North East about 1910.

His father had moved to London to become a 'Secretary to a Political Association' leaving his family who were residing by this time at 41 Meldon Terrace, Heaton. The family moved to South Shields, as Edmund attended Westoe school. He became a clerk in a Newspaper Office.

At the time of his enlistment the family had moved back to 25 Ninth Avenue, Heaton, Newcastle. Edmund was employed by the company Angus Watson and Company at Newcastle as a warehouseman.

During 1915, Bombardier Watmough had competed in the Military Games event held at Gosforth Park on Saturday, 21st August 1915. In the Long Jump he came first with a distance of 15 feet 9 inches, and the 220 yards Hurdles in which he came second. This was organised by Lieut-Colonel Parmeter who was in command of the 2nd line 1st Northumbrian Brigade, Royal Field Artillery and was under the patronage of Brigadier-General A. C. Belcher and Colonel E. Gunner C.R.A. Northumbrian Division.

His mother Helen Mary died on the 17th February 1919 and her will was administered by Henry Francis Watmough, she left effects of £414 2s 3d. In Edmund's will in 1920, administration was by Henry Francis Watmongh, another brother [who also was administrator for his Mother and his other brother Victor] on the 3rd of June 1920 left effects of £88 14s 1d.

He is remembered at Harton on H104.03 and Newcastle onNUT117
