Unveiled 9th March 1920 by the Lady Mayoress of Newcastle, Mrs. Walter Lee.

Memorial Description

Plaque surmounted by soldiers in half relief, one riding a horse, three marching, with two female figures watching. Standing at each side of the main plaque is a mourning figure. At the bottom is a wreath raised in half relief, with the details of the donation on a ribbon.
The names are listed in three columns. The dedication is in Roman capitals, the names are in sans serif capitals. The quotations are in lower case lettering.

Notes

1. The firm had supported the War Relief Fund in Newcastle.

2. At the unveiling, Mrs. Lee was presented with a bouquet of red and white carnations by Miss Doreen E. Watson, a “dainty little girl”.

3. Mr. Angus Watson was due to retire, but had decided against. In the near future they hoped to have a Staff Settlement for the firm. There would be club, billiard, reading and other recreational rooms provided. They also hoped to run classes in cooking, sewing, photography, hygiene and gymnastics.

4. From the firm, 87 served their country, of whom 12 were killed.
