Blues, R., Pte., 1918
On the Vis-En-Artois Memorial is the name of 265889 Private Robert Blues, serving with the 1st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers who died 23/10/1918.

He was born 1st February 1896, and resided in 1901 at 123 Marlborough Street, eventually residing in 1911 at 46 Oxford Avenue. South Shields. His father Robert Blues was a carpenter and was married to Agnes.

He had trained to be a telephone operator with the GPO. However, it is unconfirmed if he was actually employed by them. He was a member of the Provident Clerks Association at Newcastle. An Assurance company which had branches in the North East.

He was killed in action on the 23rd October 1918.

His unit was part of the 3rd Infantry Division, VI Corps (Haldane). This was part of the Third Army (Byng) at the Battle of the Selle, 17 - 25 October 1918, called the Final advance in Picardy.

He is remembered at Harton on H104.03, at Newcastle on NUT026, and at South Shields on S86.27 and in S86.086, page 2
