Scott, F.E., 2nd Lieut., 1918
In Etaples Military Cemetery, France, is the Commonwealth War Grave of Lieutenant Frank Edward Scott serving with the Royal Garrison Artillery Attached 405 Siege Battery who died 04/04/1918.

Frank Edward the only son of Edward Hawkes and Mary Scott was born at Byker, Newcastle on Tyne in 1881. By 1891 the family had moved to Jarrow, in 1901 he was a Student at Armstrong College Newcastle.

A School Master residing at Beamish Street, Jarrow he was Initiated on the 1st April 1909; Passed 3rd June 1909 and Raised on the 2nd December 1909 into 3242 St. Paul Lodge of Freemasons at Jarrow He was the Senior Warden of his Lodge at some point.

Frank Edward married Lilian Haldane at St. Peter''s Church 27/07/1907. In 1911 they were living at 35 Coquet Street with their 2 year old son Godfrey. Frank is an Assistant Teacher.

Newcastle Journal 05/04/1918 reports:-

'Second Lieutenant Frank Scott RGA of 17 Birch Street, Jarrow on Tyne has been dangerously wounded. Before the War he was a teacher at Bill Quay Council School.'

Newcastle Journal 08/04/1918 reports his death.

He died of wounds on the 4th April 1918 aged 37 and is buried in Etaples Military Cemetery, France, Grave Reference XXVIII.G.18.

Frank Edward Scott is remembered in Jarrow on J2.14 and J2.51 in Monkton on M45.01 in Newcastle on NUT063 in the Masonic Roll of Honour 1914-18 and in Teachers Who Fell
