John Kingsley Meyler. Flying Officer (Navigation) Born Jarrow. Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Son of John Charles and Margaret Meyler (nee Fletcher)

Death recorded BMD Deaths Mar 1944. John K. Meyler age 25 Howden 9d 16

F/O Meyler was serving with 1663 HCU. He was a crew member of Halifax V DK192 which took off from Rufforth on a training exercise. The aircraft flew into Garrowby Hill, hitting a milk float. All the crew were killed plus the milk float driver.

Tony Hibberd has submitted this photo of the memorial on the site of the crash at Garrowby Hill, East Yorkshire. It was erected in 1996, the prime mover being a man who had not gone on this flight because of a hospital operation.

Also killed in this incident was Ft.Sgt. Stanley Bright
