In Norton (St Mary) Churchyard is the Commonwealth War Grave of 1515448 Sergeant Alexander Thompson, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died 14/09/1943.

Sgt. Thompson was killed when Handley Page Halifax II LW246 NP-Z of 158 Squadron was lost on a training flight. The Halifax broke up in mid-air due to a structural failure, and crashed near Fardon, Yorkshire The crew of seven, plus two unauthorised passengers including one W.A.A.F., were killed.
