In Bard Cottage Cemetery, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 14659 Private Marker Wakeserving with the 6th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment who died 03/10/1917.

Son of Sarah Wake, of 34, Nelson St., Washington Station, Co. Durham, and the late James Wake. His brother John Wake also fell.

In Washington Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:-

the dearly beloved husband of
Sarah Wake
who lost his life at
Washington Glebe Pit
Feb. 28th 1908
aged 42 years
John Wake died of wounds
received in action at France
March 9th 1916 aged 21 years
Marker Wake killed in action
at France on Oct. 3rd 1917
aged 20 years 11 months

aged 70 years
