In Berlin South Western Cemetery, Brandenburg, Germany, is the Commonwealth War Grave of Private 73043 Stephen Charles Self serving with the 15th Battalion Durham Light Infantry who died 09/04/1918.

In Washington Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:-

who died Aug. 15th 1916
aged 60 years

Dorothy Dickeson
who died March 22nd 1951
aged 86 years
Also Stephen Charles Self
nephew of the above and
dearly beloved husband of
Emma Self
who died from wounds whilst a
prisoner of war in Germany April
9th 1918 aged 36 years

Until the day break and the shadows flee away

He was the son of William and Emma Self, of Washington Station, also husband of Emma Self, of "Etherlea," Station Road, Washington Station, Co. Durham.

Stephen Charles Self is remembered at Washington on W96.01 and W96.21

He is not remembered in the DLI Book of Remembrance.
