Reginald Burrell was born in 1924, one of seven children to George Burrell, born 28th August 1877, died 1941, and his wife Edith Annie nee Chapman, born 15th July 1886. They were married in 1906. George was a Permanent Way Labourer for the (LNER), London and North Eastern Railway.

He was born at Houghton-le-Spring to George and Ann Burrel one of ten children, and was employed at the Chemical Works at Washington. They married in 1869.

In 1911 Reginalds parents were residing at 31 Railway Cottages, Washington, prior to moving to 3 North East Cottages, Washington. The other children were George William Burrell, born 31st March 1906, Louisa Burrel, born 3rd May 1917, Doris born 6th April 1921, who married a McIntosh, Robert Burrell, born 17th December 1935 and John Burrell born 1902. Reginald Burrell is remembered at Washington on W96.01.
