Broadbelt, H., 2nd Lieut., awarded D.C.M., 1916
The Newcastle Daily Chronicle 28/11/1916 reports:

“Presentation of a D.C.M. at Sunderland.
To Sec.-Lt. H. Broadbelt
At a parade of the Sherwood Foresters at Sunderland General |English presented to Second-Lieut. H. Broadbelt, R.E. the Distinguished Conduct Medal, which, the General explained to the men assembled, was awarded to Second Lieut. (then Sergt.) Broadbelt “for going out alone and mending breaks in the line under heavy shell fire. Later, when the main cable was broken in several places, the officer repaired it, and remained all the afternoon on the spot in a dug-out, going out to repair it again when necessary. Second Lieut. Broadbelt is a son of Mr. Broadbelt, of Co-operative Terrace, Chester Road, Sunderland, and went out to the front with the Durhams.”

He is remembered in Sunderland on S140.010 and S140.128
