Gunn, J.A., Pte., 1915
In Cambrin Churchyard Extension is the Commonwealth War Grave of 3781 Private John Angus Gunn, serving with the 3rd Battalion, Coldstream Guards who died 21/06/1915.

John Angus Gunn was the son of Peter Gunn of Monkwearmouth, Sunderland, and his wife Alice, daughter of James Ridley.

John married Mary Ellen of 26 Washington Street, Sunderland.

John enlisted on the 18th September 1900, served 12 years, then re-enlisted 17th February 1915. He went to France on the 7th May 1915 and was killed in action at Cambrin 21st June 1915 whilst on sniping duty.

His third brother Peter was killed in action 29th October 1914. His second brother James, was on active service with the Royal Field Artillery in 1916. The youngest brother, Albert, who was with the Durham Light Infantry was wounded at Ypres 28th June 1915 and invalided home.
