In St.Cuthbert's Churchyard is a family headstone for Stamp which reads:

In loving memory of
Arthur beloved husband of Margaret Stamp
Who died 27th April 1917 aged 53 years
Also Margaret Stamp, wife of the above,
Who died 26th Jan. ?? aged 7?years
Also Arthur (1st East Yorks) beloved son of the above
Who was reported missing in the Battle of the Somme
1st July 1916 aged 18 years.
Also Elizabeth, daughter of the above.

Arthur Stamp has no known grave and should have been listed on the memorial at Thiepval, but was somehow overlooked. Names have been added over the years to the Thiepval memorial, but this has now been declared “full” and his name cannot be added. Instead his name has been recorded in the “France 1914-18” virtual memorial which has been created until a new stone memorial can be created to accommodate the names of men whose existence has only emerged in recent times.

Soldiers Died in the Great War states that Arthur Stamp was born in New Herrington, enlisted at Shiney Row and was resident in Fence Houses.

Arthur Stamp is remembered at Herrington on H137.06
