In St. Cuthbert's Churchyard is the Commonwealth War Grave of:

W. Chambers
Wireless Operator/Air Gunner
Royal Air Force
31st July 1941 Age 20

Sgt. Chambers was a member of the crew of Hampden I P4399 QR which was flying on an operation to Cologne. It took off from RAF Luffenham and crashed at Dartford in Kent when the pilot lost control whilst flying through an electrical storm. Tony Hibberd has sent a photo of a memorial at Dartford, Kent, erected at the scene of the crash.

As well as three crew members, three civilians were also killed.
