Son of Michael and Margaret Short, of 49.5, Elemore Lane, Easington Lane, Hetton-le-Hole, Co. Durham.

In Hetton Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:-

beloved son of Micheal and Margaret Short

who died of wounds received in action in France
on Nov.23rd 1917 aged 19 years 10 months
Also Ex Pte. William brother of the above
who saw service in the Dardanelles campaign in 1915
who passed away peacefully at 31 Collingwood Street
Hetton Downs on Sept. 6th 1918 aged 34 years

who died Feb 10th 1897
aged 20 years
Also Annabell Aspey
grandmother of the above
who died July 30th 1905
aged 65 years
