On Loos Memorial is the name of 19283 Private James Kent serving with the Yorkshire Hussars (Alexandra Princess of Wales’ Own) who died 26/09/1915.

James was the eldest son of William and Sarah Kent. The family were from Hanley Staffordshire. James was born there c1896.

By 1908 the family had moved to 4 Hornsey Terrace Hetton-le-Hole. James had by 1911 4 brothers and two sisters. Father William was a Filler at the colliery and James was an underground pony driver. By the outbreak of War the family had moved to Easington Lane and were living at 7 Mill Street, Brickgarth, Easington Lane.

James enlisted at Houghton-le-Spring and joined the Yorkshire Hussars (Alexandra Princess of Wales’ Own) 10th Battalion Regimental Number 19283.

James went to France 9th September 1915 and was killed in action 17 days later on the 26th September 1915 aged 19 years.
