Barratt/Barrett, H.T., Sgt., 1915
On Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium, is the name of 6467 Sergeant Harry Theodore Barratt serving with 10th Durham Light Infantry who died 25/09/1915.

Harry's birth was registered at Pancras, Middlesex in 1881. His birth date was 31st January 1881 and he was baptised a year later (12th November 1882) at St Michael’s, Camden Town, Middlesex. His parents were Harry Wheeler Barratt (died 1890) and Harriet Eliza (nee Leaman) who had married on the 28th March 1880 in Middlesesx. His father was a cloth worker. He had several siblings including Joseph, Stanley, Harriet and Daisy.

Harry was listed on the 1911 census on the register for 3rd (Reserve) Battalion, Durham Light Infantry, Barracks, Newcastle upon Tyne.

Harry married Minnie (nee Brown) at Guildford, Surrey late in 1914. They had a son, Sydney born 24th August 1915 who died 11th March 1916.

Harry went to France on the 21st May 1915 and was killed in action on the 25th September 1915.

Recipient of the 1915 Star, the Victory Medal and British War Medal.

Harry Theodore Barratt/Barrett is remembered at Barnard Castle on B135.02, his name is crossed out on B135.23 and he is not included on the Memorial at Bowes Museum
