West Pelton Churchyard

On the Memorial at Arras is the name of Tyneside Z/2932 Leading Seaman John Armin, serving with Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 11/07/1917.

In St. Paul's Churchyard is a family headstone which reads:-

Sacred to the memory of
George
Dearly beloved son of
John & Frances Armin
who died through injuries received
at Twizell Colliery 19th Feb. 1934
Aged 24 years
Also John Armin R.N.D.
Brother of the above who
Fell in Action 11th July 1917
Aged 20 years

The Chester-le-Street Chronicle 20/07/1917 reports:-

Leading Seaman John Armin R.N.D. 6 Wood Row Twizell has been killed. He was 20 years of age and before the War was employed as a putter at Twizell Colliery.

John Armin is remembered at West Pelton on W112.01 and W112.05
