PELTON

Muncaster, R., Pte., 1919
In Pelton Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 91921 Private Robert Muncaster, serving with the Tank Corps who died 15/01/1919.

William Kirby has submitted the following:-

Robert born in 1883 at Whitehaven.

In 1901 he was living at Pelton Fell, boarding with John Robert and Mary Elliott, with him was James Muncaster aged 31.

In 1911 Robert is still boarding with the Elliotts at 28 William Street, Newfield near Pelton Fell. He is a Putter at the local coal mine.

Robert married Hannah Johnson Dinning at Chester-le-Street in 1912. They had two known children Robert born 1913 and Henry born 1916.

Robert originally joined the Durham Light Infantry (23749) but later transferred to the Tank Corps.

Robert died of sickness whilst on leave January 15th 1919.

Recipient of the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.

He is remembered at Pelton on P26.01and at Pelton Fell on P27.01
