Moffitt, R.W., Pte., 1915

Chester-le-Street Chronicle 24/12/1915

In Pelton Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of Deal/3492(S) Private Robert William Moffitt, serving with Royal Army Medical Corps who died 18/12/1915.

Chester-le-Street Chronicle 24/12/1915 reports:-

Robert was the youngest son of the (late) Mr and Mrs Johnson Moffitt of the Post Office, Pelton Fell. He was attached to the Naval Brigade (Hawke Battalion), in the Dardanelles where he was attacked by dysentery. He was taken to the Royal Naval Hospital at Plymouth where he lay for seven weeks, eventually dying on December 18th 1915.

Robert's funeral took place at Pelton Cemetery on Thursday (23rd December) and the service was held in the Wesleyan Church.

Robert William Moffitt is remembered at Pelton on P26.01 and at Pelton Fell on P27.01 and P27.05
